Six (6) month smiles
Have you thought about having orthodontic treatment such as fixed braces or Invisalign treatment but the thought of wearing braces or aligners for up to 2 years puts you off? Like many people in the UK with crooked or misaligned teeth long-term braces treatments are the only option.
The picture above shows the progression of this lady from before having treatment to wearing 6 month smiles braces and then completing treatment. You can see that the braces do not look as visible as classic metal braces.
This patient had crowded upper and lower teeth and the two upper central teeth flared out. They were treated using fixed braces and are now perfectly aligned.
New to the UK is the revolutionary 6 month smiles treatment otherwise known as 6 month braces or six month orthodontics. However, no matter what name is used this ground-breaking technique can reduce the completion time of orthodontic treatments from 2 years to as little as six months.
By utilising the latest wires and brackets the unique six month smiles braces can give you an aesthetically pleasing smile in a fraction of the time that it would normally take.
Dr Omid Dashtgard is our resident experienced dentist in Six Month Smiles, and has used the treatment to transform many smiles.
Do I need to wear metal train track braces?
No. With the six month smiles braces the wires and brackets are white (tooth –coloured) brackets and so they are barley visible. People will notice if they are stood close to you but from a distance they wont even tell that you are wearing braces.
How does 6 Month Smiles work?
The system utilises special nickel-titanium wires and brackets to move your teeth using constant gentle forces and this causes the teeth to move into their desired position. Once your braces have been fitted you will need to come back to the practice every few weeks for short appointments for minor adjustments to your braces. The system is much quicker than conventional orthodontic treatment or the equivalent treatment with invisible braces because it focuses primarily on moving the teeth that show when you smile.
Like any orthodontic treatment, for the first few days it will feel uncomfortable as you become acclimatised to the brace. It may be advisable to take some mild pain-killers first few days.
This young man had large gaps between his teeth because of their position. The teeth were moved into perfect alignment with 6 Month Smiles braces.
Will the Six Month Smiles system affect my speech?
For the first few days it will affect your speech and you may salivate more, like with any orthodontic treatment but after the first 7-10 days everything should be back to normal.
Does this system treat all orthodontic problems in 6 months?
The 6 Month Smiles system is not suitable for everyone and you will need a consultation in order to determine if this is for you. That being said most cases that are suitable for this treatment are completed within 6 months, some may take as little as 5 months and some more complex cases may take up to 7 or 8 months however when compared to the 2+ years that would have been required to treat these cases with traditional orthodontic treatment or clear braces, it still offers great advantages.
To keep your smile looking it’s best for years to come, Kissdental recommend wearing retainers to stop them moving back to their original positions.

This patient came to see us because she was unhappy with her smile and she felt her teeth were moving and gradually falling in. We placed upper braces on her teeth and brought them over her bottom teeth so they were on the correct side of the bite. This allowed them to be on show and less hidden away. She was delighted with the final result.
