What Is Dental Phobia?

It’s easy to brush off the fear of visiting the dentist as ‘silly’ or ‘irrational’. However, we know dental phobia is tough for lots of people to deal with. We encounter lots of people who experience dental anxieties. You’re not alone.

But as challenging as it is when you’ve got genuine anxieties surrounding dental treatments, not letting us provide you with care can lead to health issues later down the line. We don’t want that to happen. That’s why our principal dentist, Dr Kailesh Solanki, has worked to become a Dental Phobia Certified dentist, so we can help you.

How Do We Help at Kissdental?

People get nervous about visiting the dentist for various reasons. Maybe it’s because of a bad experience in the past, it could be that you’re scared of drills and needles, or possibly the atmosphere and how close we need to get that makes you feel uncomfortable. Whatever you’re worried about, we’re here to listen.

By understanding your specific fears, we can work out how to treat you in a way that works for you. Do let us know when you’re booking an appointment that you’ve got anxieties. Our experienced team will do everything to keep you relaxed and comfortable before and during your appointment.

We can go at your pace. Anxiety can build during a check-up or treatment, and we’re happy to go at a speed you’re comfortable with.

Oral and IV sedation are also available. This will perfectly relax you. You’ll remain conscious throughout your appointment. You’ll even know what’s going on – but you’ll be very relaxed and won’t feel a thing.

Nervous? Relax with Kiss

We know that your anxiety around dental procedures can make you run a mile from our clinic, and there are probably a million and one things you’d rather do than sit in our chair. But we also know that everyone needs access to great dental care to prevent serious health problems. That’s why we want to make your experience with us as comfortable as possible.

One of the ways we can help you overcome your fear of the dentist is by providing sedation. By using IV or oral sedation, we’ll completely remove any pain and discomfort from the equation and leave you with an unparalleled sense of calm.

How Sedation Works

There are three types of sedation offered at Kiss Dental. Oral and IV sedation and nitrous oxide.

With oral sedation, before your appointment with us, you’ll need to take a tablet. This will slowly enter your bloodstream making you calm in the run-up to your check-up or treatment. Then, when you’re in the clinic, you’ll feel completely at ease while we take care of your teeth.

You’ll be conscious and will understand what’s going on. You’ll be able to hear us, and we’ll let you know what we’re doing.

Intravenous sedation is injected straight into your bloodstream using a small needle. We’ll do this at the start of your appointment. Throughout your treatment, we’ll monitor your heart rate and blood pressure to ensure you get the right dose to keep you perfectly calm.

IV sedation is perfectly safe and is administered by our highly-trained dentists.

The fast-acting nitrous oxide is inhaled. When sedated using this method, you’ll feel a warm tingling sensation combined with great feelings of calmness.

The effects of any sedation can take a while to wear off, so it’s essential that you don’t drive after your appointment.
