You’ve seen the adverts. “Dental veneers from £200!” “Full smile makeover in a week!” “Luxury resort + new teeth for less than a London price tag.” Turkey’s dental tourism industry processes over 600,000 international patients annually. The numbers are staggering. But here’s what the glossy before-and-after photos won’t show you: the infection rates, the failed materials, the shade mismatches, and the horror stories we see every month in our Manchester cosmetic dentistry practice.
If you’re considering “Turkey teeth,” this post is for you.
“Turkey teeth” is the term for dental work performed in Turkey by international dental tourism clinics. Typically, this means cosmetic procedures—usually veneers or crown work—done at a fraction of UK prices. Patients fly to Istanbul, Ankara, or Izmir for a week-long treatment package, combining sightseeing with restorative dentistry. The appeal is obvious: you save money, see a new country, and walk away with a completely transformed smile. In theory, it’s perfect.
In reality, it’s often a financial and clinical disaster.
At Kiss Dental in Manchester, we spend a significant portion of our time and expertise correcting the damage caused by these “bargain” treatments. And we’ve learned something troubling: the real cost of Turkey teeth isn’t what you pay upfront—it’s what you pay to fix them.
Turkey’s dominance in dental tourism didn’t happen by accident. Several factors converged:
It’s brilliant marketing. It’s also why we see so many patients in our Altrincham, Manchester City Centre, and Flixton clinics who came to us in tears after Turkey treatment went wrong.
Dental infection is no joke. It can spread to your sinuses, jawbone, or bloodstream. Yet infection rates from Turkish dental tourism are significantly higher than UK standards. Why? Poor sterilisation protocols. Turkish clinics operate under different infection control standards, and some clinics cut corners further to maximise throughput. You’re seeing multiple patients daily on rushed schedules with reused instruments.
By the time you’re home in Manchester and developing a abscess or fever, you’re now paying emergency dental fees to fix an infection that cost £200 to prevent properly.
You don’t know what’s going into your mouth. Turkish clinics use cement, materials, and composite resins that are cheaper than UK-approved brands. Some materials are simply inferior. Turkish clinics, working quickly and under pressure, sometimes get this balance wrong. You can’t “undo” a damaged nerve. That sensitivity is permanent.
Your new veneers should match your skin tone, eye colour, and facial structure. That requires skill, artistry, and communication. Turkish clinics see hundreds of patients. Shade that looks flat under UK sunlight (Turkey’s sunlight is different), shapes that don’t suit your face, and teeth that scream “fake veneers” to anyone who sees you.
If something goes catastrophically wrong with NHS or private UK dentistry, you have recourse. You can complain to the General Dental Council. You can pursue claims. You have legal protection. In Turkey? You have an email address for a clinic that won’t respond, and no legal standing whatsoever.
